Centre for Historic Equipment of the Armed Forces (CHEAF)

The Centre for Historic Equipment of the Armed Forces (CHEAF), headed by Jürg Reusser (a.i.), bears overall responsibility for the collection of historical material of the Swiss Armed Forces. It documents the history and technical development of the army over the last 200 years.

The collection is housed with sub-collections (personal equipment, weapons, vehicles, aircraft and technical equipment) in Thun, Burgdorf, Dübendorf and Uster in Centres of Competence for the Preservation of Equipment for Posterity (CCPEPs).Nachwelt (MKZN) (admin.ch).

The operation of the Centres of Competence for the Preservation of Equipment for Posterity (CCPEPs).is guaranteed by foundations governed by private law.

The collections are primarily intended to illustrate and document central and representative aspects of the history of the Swiss Armed Forces, operational doctrines, the history of technology and industry, as well as important facts relating to the Armed Forces in relation to the history of Switzerland, cultural or social history.

Surplus historical army material is given exclusively to accredited institutions.
